Iran film ‘Mermaid’ tops Cannes filmfest

Iranian film ‘Mermaid’ wins 2 awards at the Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes in France.

Iranian film ‘Mermaid’ has won the award for Best Feature Film at the Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes 2017 in France.

Directed by Amir-Masoud Aqababaeian and produced by Mohammad-Reza Arab, the movie also received the award for Best Feature Screenplay to Aqababaeian.

It depicts a survivor of a diving team from Iraq-Iran war who lives beside the Persian Gulf and tries to prove that the oil companies are responsible for the water pollution in the gulf.

Iranian film ‘A Baby with Red Socks’ also won three awards for Best Director, Best Actress and Best Original Score at the French event.

The festival’s jury panel is comprised of film score composer Kaveh Cohen, director and animator Ken Mora, director and producer Armand Mastroianni, journalist Sujoy Bosu, as well as Iranian director Belal Taheri.

Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes highlights a selection of best films at Hotel Barriere Le Gray d'Albion of Cannes.

The festival, dedicated to filmmakers from Middle East countries, aims to promote independent filmmakers and innovative works.

Being held in cooperation with Cineport International Media, the 2nd edition of the Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes has been slated for November 25-30, 2017.
